Physical Education (PE): Grades PK to Grade 8

WELCOME TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION!

The Physical Education (PE) program at the Catholic Academy of Stamford (CAS) is a sequential, grade-specific approach to skill development, movement, fitness and fun.  The curriculum is progressive and challenges students physically and mentally.  I mix in a combination of cooperative and team building activities with games, sports, fitness and movement to match varied abilities. I sprinkle in a few optional (extra credit) activities that students can perform at home with their families in order to help students start to develop a lifetime of healthy activity.

In Pre-K and Kindergarten, I focus on basic movement patterns and group dynamics, while encouraging creativity and fun.  At Grades 1 & 2 – students begin to develop basic sports skills and are introduced to more mature movement patterns through game play such as Sink the Ship, Castle Crush, Pizza Tag and other fun games.  In Grades 3, 4 & 5 I introduce more team sports and more advanced skills and movement patterns. For the Grades 6, 7 & 8 at the Upper School, we continue with Team Sports such as Basketball, (Floor) Hockey, Soccer, Team Handball, GaGa Ball, Capture the Flag and I introduce more lifetime fitness activities.

After school, I lead our Beyond the Bell Sports throughout the school year on Mondays & Wednesdays from 2:15 - 3:15 pm as well as Middle School Basketball for Girls and Boys in Grades 5-8:

  • Beyond the Bell - Mondays - > PE Games for Grades Pre-K4 - Grade 2

  • Basketball Practices - Boys & Girls for Grades 5-8 on Wednesdays 4:45 - 6:00 pm and Saturdays 10:00 - 11:15 am
