OCTOBER 2022

October already seems so long ago, as this school year is going very quickly.
We spent October learning about pumkins.  The children's words were written down as they described a pumpkin.  As a whole group, the pumpkins were measured with unifex cubes.  The pumpkins were cut open and left on the science table for the children to investigate with a magnifying glass.   They predicted whether or not the pumpkins would sink or float and together we watched them all float.  The last pumpkin activity was the pumpkin volcano; baking soda and vinegar were used for this science activity.  It appears that everyone had fun watching the mini eruption!  Photos of these activities can be found in the "October 2022 Gallery." Go to the "Links" page to view photos.

We also had a visit from "Truck 1" one of Stamford's Fire Departments on Main Street.  The firefighters came out and talked to the children all about fire safety.  Let's hope they went home and asked where the smoke detectors are in your home, that they stay away from matches or lights nd know to call 911 in case of an emergency.  Photos can be found in the "Fire Dept Visit Gallery."

We took a walk on school grounds looked at all the trees in their fall glory.  We talked about the parts of a tree; roots, trunk, branches and leaves.  The children played in the leaves for a bit and collected some leaves too.  They also had a few opportunities to use small rakes while on the playground to "rake" the leaves.  Looks they had a great time!
